HOT PICKS – The Perfect Fixtures And Fittings For Your Conservatory Style
After making the exciting decision to install a conservatory at your home and making contact with Mitchell Glass, you will be invited to sit down with one of our consultants to begin planning the design.
Your consultant will take you through all the possibilities and cover important areas such as fittings and fixtures – a vital ingredient in any conservatory.
If you don’t know exactly what ‘fixtures and fittings’ are, we can define them for you.
A fixture is an item that’s either attached, or fixed to the structure, while a fitting is the completely opposite and something that’s neither attached nor fixed.
They mustn’t be ignored as fixtures and fittings will add character, decoration and functionality to the conservatory. Without the right sort of fixtures and fittings, your conservatory won’t fulfil its potential.
Below is an example of the kind of fixtures and fittings that you really ought to account for…
- Light fittings
- Plug sockets
- Units (shelves, cupboards)
- Fixed furniture
- Blinds
- Mirrors
- Sofas
- Lampshades
This isn’t a definitive bulleted list of fixtures and fittings as there are countless others. Anything missing from this list that our consultants feel will benefit the design will be mentioned by them to you.
In our minds, there should be a particularly strong focus put on the furniture, blinds and lighting chosen for the conservatory.
Furniture
Conservatories are meant to be relaxing spaces and the robustness of rattan furniture will leave you sitting comfortably over a long period. Rattan furniture is also completely fade-resistant and very easy to clean. Before buying any rattan armchair or sofa, make sure that you try it out first.
Blinds
For privacy purposes and some shade from the sun, you should fit a set of blinds. Prior to purchasing them, take precise measurements of the windows they will cover to make sure they sit perfectly. You will come across blinds in all sorts of colours and patterns, so consider how they will complement your preferred colour scheme.
Lighting
Conservatories aren’t solely reserved for daytime use. You should be able to use yours deep into the early hours of the night, if it’s properly illuminated. When there is an internal pelmet around the perimeter of the ceiling, you could have integrated spotlights, or how about hanging an ornate chandelier from the ceiling?
