It Might Be Summer, But It’s Not Too Early To Start Preparing For Winter
Sorry to mention it before the school holidays have even finished, but winter will soon be here. The darker nights tell us that, and before too long, we’ll all be layering up and putting on our hats and scarves.
Are you completely confident that your house is fully geared up to handle potentially freezing temperatures, gale force winds, sleet, snow and whatever else the winter weather will have in store for us?
If not, now is the time to be getting your home winter-ready. These three weather-proofing measures will ensure that winter at home goes without a hitch.
- Replace your existing windows and doors
We rely on our windows and doors to keep us warm, well-protected, and to also add some visual appeal to our properties. If the rough British climate has gotten the better of them and their condition is fast faltering, they should be replaced with modern UPVC or aluminium windows and doors.
The installation of new windows and doors will particularly improve insulation, reducing the dependence you have on your heating system, causing energy bills to drop and draughts to disappear.
- Fit a solid roof to your extension
How good would it to be able to host the Christmas Day dinner in your conservatory! A true party atmosphere can be created inside the extension and is guaranteed to get everyone in the festive spirit.
But, there’s no chance of that happening if your conservatory gets excruciatingly cold. Fear not though! All of your Christmas wishes can come true by simply upgrading your current roof to a solid tiled roof.
Quick and easy to fit, a solid roof will give you all-year-round thermal comfort, and also revitalise the aesthetics of the extension.
- Inspect your roofline
Roofline is the collective term used to refer to fascia, soffits, bargeboards, cladding etc. Its main purpose is to stop water getting into your house.
Leave it to a roofline specialist to get up onto the roof and check that your entire roofline is free of debris, leaves, mud etc. as any blockages can cause water damage to occur.
Timber roofline does a pretty poor job of providing water protection as it very easily rots, so upgrade to UPVC roofline if you haven’t already done so.
Mitchell Glass has you covered for windows, doors, solid roofs and roofline. Get a FREE quote on any of these products and we’ll have your home winter-ready in no time.
