FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have any door related questions that need answering, go through our FAQ’s and you should find the information you need.
Are composite doors all basically the same?

They’re not actually. In general, a standard composite has a thickness of 44m and a foam filling. A very lightweight product, they also contain a GRP colour skin (better known as fibreglass).

A Solid Core composite door has a bit more depth (48mm) and includes laminated layers of timber, which is why it is more robust and durable than a foam filled composite door. It also has a UPVC skin, making it easy to colour match it to your door frame.

There is a price variation between the different types of composite door. Talk to one of our consultants to help you choose the right form of composite door.

Is it possible to have different colours inside and outside?

Yes, largely you can have contrasting finishes on the inside and outside of a composite door, for instance, if you wish to have a red colour outside and white colour on the inside. Whatever internal and external colours you want is fine. Reach out for assistance from an advisor if you need advice on colour.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

Please, notify an advisor if you have any questions. Some of the most common questions they receive are answered below.

How many keys are supplied?

We will give you 3 keys as standard with whichever door you buy – if you need more keys, just ask when ordering the product, and we’re always able to give you more keys at a later date.

Can I have keys that work with both doors? (Suited)

Yes, no problem. If you inform the advisor of this when placing your order, they will ensure the keys are suited and work for both doors.

What does Secured by Design mean?

Secured by Design (SBD) is a Police-run initiative that exists to enhance the security of buildings and their surroundings to provide people with safe home settings.

SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification – is the recognised standard for security products, all about deterring and reducing crime. It incorporates windows and doors, and their essential components, such as locks and hinges.

Conservatory Outlet, our sister manufacturing company, is a registered member of Secured by Design, so the majority of our product range has been tested to meet the safety standard. Just have a chat with an advisor if you are particularly concerned about your home security.

What does a 3-star rated door barrel mean?

3*s is the highest-rated door cylinder you can get and has been thoroughly tested to check it offers maximum security against break-ins. Within this door cylinder is our unique snap-secure technology with a lockdown mode, there to stop the barrel from being compromised.

Can you completely fold back a French door?

Yes. Just request an egress hinge which will give you the ability to fully fold back your French doors and maximise your view of the garden.

Should I choose a sliding patio or bi-folding door?

Either option will work well if you have a large opening at the rear of your house as they will both brilliantly open your living space. A bi-folding door completely folds back, supplying you with a gorgeously vast garden opening. The slenderness of a sliding patio door means that even when closed, you still get a very unrestricted view of the outdoors. Use the expertise of an advisor to help you make a decision between the two products.

Do you offer finance to help me pay for windows and doors?

Yes. To make life easy for you, Mitchell Glass can arrange a variety of affordable and convenient easy payment finance options (subject to application & status). Applying for finance is simple and we promise you a quick decision. Everything can be sorted out with you in the comfort of your home or at your local Mitchell Glass Showroom, so you can enjoy whatever you’ve set your heart on right away.

What do we need to do when our finance is approved?

If you’re arranging your own finance, you’ll need to call us as soon as you get the go ahead. If you’re taking up one of our offers, the company will tell us both directly, so there’s no need to call as we will get in touch with you.

What happens if finance is refused?

Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.

I’ve applied for finance with Mitchell Glass. How long will approval take?

Sometimes our finance company will say ‘yes’ almost immediately and on other occasions it may take them a few days. This short delay can be for any number of reasons and you should not be unduly concerned.

This option allows you to order now with a 15% deposit and then pay nothing for 6 months. As long as you pay the outstanding balance in full before 6 months has elapsed plus a £29 settlement fee, no interest will be charged. If, after 6 months, this is not convenient, you can pay in 120 monthly instalments at 19.9% APR Representative. *Deferred for 6 months from the date of completion - £29 settlement fee applies if the loan is repaid in full during the deferral period and NO INTEREST will be paid. If the loan is not settled in full within the deferral period, then interest will have accrued from the start of the agreement on any amount still outstanding at the end of the deferral period. Interest will continue to be charged until the agreement is repaid in full. For legal reasons the Representative Example shows interest IF the outstanding balance is NOT paid before the 6 months has elapsed. No security is required on this loan.
