Business Energy-Saving Tips From Mitchell Glass

Owning and running a business in the current economic climate is an extremely demanding job, both emotionally and financially. Thousands of UK businesses have fallen by the way-side ever since the recession hit and unless changes are made, many others could soon follow suit.
One of the largest out-goings of a business nowadays along with staff wages, advertising, marketing and distribution costs, is the cost of their energy bills. To help lower your energy bills and the current carbon footprint of your business, Mitchell Glass has put together the following tips:

Lights

Ensure that when you close for business at the end of the working day that you switch all lights off and avoid leaving them on overnight. Not only will this result in less energy being consumed, but it can also cut the cost of maintenance as replacing bulbs will need to be replaced for less regularly. If leaving a boardroom or meeting room empty, make sure you turn off the lights.

Equipment

Computers and other electrical-based items should be switched off before vacating the office. Never leave monitors, photocopiers, printers etc. on stand-by as they will continue to consume valuable energy throughout the night.

Kitchen items

Make sure that any dishwashers, fridges and freezers that you have installed in your kitchen are energy efficient, carrying at least an energy rating of ‘C’. When loading the dishwasher make sure that it is sufficiently filled, rather than washing plates and cutlery in dribs and drabs. Also ensure that workers don’t over-boil the kettle.

Air conditioning

Once a comfortable temperature has been reached in your office try to avoid readjusting the dial on your air-conditioning unit.
