Mitchell Glass Hits Another Milestone – 145 Years in Business

We’ve reached many landmarks over the years and 10th April 2020 sees us reach yet another as Mitchell Glass celebrates its 145th anniversary. 

You have to go all the way back to 1875, when Robert Mitchell, aged just 28 at the time, headed to Hawick to set-up what was then known as R. Mitchell Glass. 

He never could have foreseen that 145 years on, the business, now owned by Peter and Susan Roden, would still be thriving and not just be Scotland’s most trusted and longest-established home improvement company, but also a standard-bearer for innovation and customer service.

So many accolades have come our way over the decades, with the biggest of them coming last year when Mitchell Glass was given an “Outstanding Service to the Industry” award by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF). 

They continue to flood in right up to the present day, as recently as February, when we were both named SunFlex UK Distributor of the Month and received the Investors in People Silver Accreditation.

We’ve also received widespread industry recognition for our work standards, earning endorsements from FENSA, the GGF and TrustMark, the three most respected government-authorised schemes.

There have, of course, been challenging times along the way – it hasn’t all been plain sailing – none more so than now due to the spread of Covid-19, but our resolve has got us through them and it will do again at this time of national crisis. 

How did we get here? Well, it may be a very different world now to when the company was first established, but what hasn’t changed is the ethos originally conceived by Robert, a “strict attention to orders” where the customer’s needs are always put first and they’re well looked after. This has been the backbone of our success.

It’s been some journey so far and we thank you all for being a part of it, customers and suppliers, past, present and future.
